Kindergarten Curriculum: Monthly Plan for Safar (January)

Learning to ski with Mr. Magee by Van Dusen, Chris.
Snowball fight! by Fallon, Jimmy.
Callie Cat, ice skater by Spinelli, Eileen.
Kate skates by O''Connor, Jane.
Quiet loud by Patricelli, Leslie.
Big little by Patricelli, Leslie.

Language and Literacy

Phonics:
  • Review blending consonant sounds which are br, pl, fl, sl, cr, gl, gr, bl, cl, fr, pr, st, tr, str, sp, sw, tw, sk. Also review consonant digraphs.
  • Review long vowels, vowel digraphs, vowel diphthongs and R-controlled vowels
  • Practice silent consonant and consonant digraphs (comb, debt, window, answer, high, fudge, fridge etc)

Reading readiness:

  • Recognizing words and the spaces between them
  • Learn about Same and different
  • What belongs together?
  • Classifying.
  • Connect Information and Events in Text to Real Life
  • Listen to/Retell Stories or Parts of Stories
Vocabulary
Learn selected words related to monthly themes.

Grammar
  • Adjectives
  • Opposites
Writing:
  • Recognize and write first and last name using capital and lowercase letters. (Practice writing siblings and parents names using capital and lowercase letters)
  • Recognize that first and last names begin with a capital letter.
  • Recognize that a sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with punctuation
  • Recognizing words and the spaces between them

Math:
MEP maths (optional)
From Kindergarten Workbook:
Practice whole numbers 0- 30
Count and compare sets of whole numbers 0-30
Recognize and extend patterns
Make reasonable predictions about story problem outcomes
Determine objects that are smaller, larger, heavier, lighter, more, less, longer, shorter
Practice telling time with digital and analog clocks.

Problem Solving:
comparing, sorting, grouping, patterns, problem solving activities.

Science:
Recognize weather conditions and appropriate dress. Learn about ice and icicle.
• Digging (Science and Technology) –machines make work easier.
• Shadows (Physical Science) - Light travels in a straight line until it strikes an object.
• Does it Change? (Physical Science)- When some substances are placed in liquid, they dissolve.

All about maps (cont'ed from last month):
Map Symbols;
Map Key;
Distance on a Map;
Borders on a Map;
Map Grids.



Social Studies:
All about me: Practice address, phone number and birthday.
Recognize how people are alike and different. Talk about Friendships. Recognize how people are alike and different

Islamic Studies:
Review Tauheed of Allah
Aqeedah
The three levels of the deen: Islam, Eeman and Ihsan.
5 Pillars of Islaam
Learn different duaa (all year long)
Practice wudu and praying (all year long)

Arabic
Study the following lessons from Teach your Child Arabic.
Practice Reading with “ Arabic Comes First.” vocabulary worksheets.
Practice Handwriting
New vocabulary

I love the fact ur themes are set for the month! I need to do the sane vs weekly. That seems a lot easier. Masahaa'Allaah! Baraka'Allaahu'Feekum for the inspiration :)

Umm Nadir, inshaAllah we'll try to share our work as time permits and like December in won;t be in weekly summary form, rather I'll write summaries for each subject individually under Kindergarten Curriculum Safar/January label inshaAllah.
